What Does "Five Percent Capacity" Mean?
The name Five Percent Capacity represents those moments when life feels overwhelming, yet you continue moving forward.
For many first responders, cumulative stress, repeated exposure to traumatic events, disrupted sleep, and the demands of the profession can take a significant toll. There may be days when your energy is low, your focus is challenged, or you're carrying experiences that others never see.
Our name is a reminder that even on those difficult days, progress is still progress. If all you have is five percent, give your five percent. Tomorrow may be different.
Understanding PTSD in First Responders
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing traumatic events. Because first responders are regularly exposed to emergencies, violence, serious injuries, and loss of life, they face a higher risk of developing PTSD than many other professions.
PTSD can affect people differently. Some individuals may experience intrusive memories or nightmares. Others may notice increased anxiety, emotional numbness, irritability, difficulty concentrating, or changes in sleep. Recovery is not always a straight path, and everyone's experience is unique.
